How do you keep avocado fresh? Here are a few tips.
This is how you keep the avocado fresh

Most people like avocados the most when they are fresh, and to ensure this freshness, it is essential to eat that fruit as soon as possible after it is cut. Sometimes, though, it doesn’t make sense to eat a whole avocado right away, but on the other hand, you wouldn’t want to throw the uneaten portion into the trash. How can the freshness of avocado be extended so that you can enjoy this great fruit for a little longer?

Fortunately, there are a lot of  tricks that can help prevent the oxidation of avocados so that they stay fresh and green for longer. So also take advantage of the extra avocado pieces with these easy instructions!

Leave the avocado stone in place

avocado stone

Our first piece of advice for maintaining freshness is this: leave the stone in the other half in place.

Keep in mind, however, that this advice only works for the part that is still connected to the stone. The area that comes in contact with the air will quickly lose its freshness and oxidize.

Onion

This method involves the use of red onions: cut a quarter of the onions into pieces and then place the pieces on the bottom of an airtight storage box. You can place the remaining piece of avocado on top of the onions with the stone pointing up. Then close the box and put it in the refrigerator.

This trick is very effective as the steams released by the onion help maintain the green color and freshness of the avocado fruit. The only part of the fruit that is in direct contact with the onion is the peel of the avocado, so the taste of the fruit itself will not change as a result of this treatment. You can also take advantage of the onion with one of your meals after storage.

Olive oil as a preservative of freshness

olive oil

Olive oil is a natural product that does not change the taste or aroma of avocado – it only keeps it fresh. To make the best use of the olive oil, place it on the surfaces of the avocado you want to keep fresh, and then put the fruit in an airtight storage box.  The oil keeps it safe from oxidation and contact with air.

Lemon juice

Another good natural help is lemon juice. The citric acid contained in lemon is able to substantially reduce the oxidation of avocado. To do this, you should sprinkle lemon juice on the area of avocado you want to keep fresh.

One option is to put a large slice of lemon on top of the avocado if it is a piece without stone. In both ways, however, it is important to put the avocado in an airtight jar to keep it fresh – this way the fruit stays good for 2-4 days at a temperature of about 4 ° C.

Cold water

This is a very common remedy in many homes and restaurants, and here the avocado is placed in cold water to prevent it from coming into very extensive contact with oxygen. In this way, it is recommended to do this only if the remaining piece of avocado will be used fairly soon – so water is not a very effective antioxidant.

Plastic wrap

A plastic wrap is also one to help you keep your avocado fresh for longer. So cover the piece of avocado with plenty of plastic, or “wrap film,” and then put it in the refrigerator. Even if the top of a piece of fruit turns black in as little as a day or two, all you need to do is remove the top layer to bring out the green color below.

Crush the avocado

If you don’t want to lose any of your remaining avocados, a good way is to make delicious guacamole from it. To do this, all you need to do is crush the avocado and add one tablespoon of lime juice to each half piece.

The acid brought in by the juice helps the avocado stay without oxidation and discoloration. But if you want even more effective preservation, put the crushed avocado in an airtight storage box, and cover it with a plastic wrap before closing the lid. The plastic wrap and lid prevent oxygen from entering the surface of the avocado, thus preserving the fruit without oxidation. Later, you can use crushed avocado to make a delicious guacamole, or you can use it, for example, as part of salads.

So keep your avocado better and greener for longer – take note of these great and easy home decor!
